For me, fabric is more than just cloth: It's a catalyst for memory. A Sunbonnet Sue quilt my grandma made takes me back to matching dresses my sister and I wore. A black-and-white photo of my mother is clearly white polka dots on brown polished cotton. A dye-spattered work apron conjures up holiday meals served in white organdie (put on after the work was done in blue gingham). To the designers who created those fabrics -- thank you for the memories!

I hope you'll use some of my fabric designs to make memories for yourself and the people in your life. I create digital designs that are printed with water-based pigment inks in an environmentally friendly low-water process by a company called Spoonflower. In my collections you'll find odd botanical "hybrids," fishy things, steampunk and diesel punk novelties, and fabrics that celebrate magical places like Washington Island and Langlade County. In my Spoonflower shop you can select a design, choose the type of fabric you want it printed on, and order exactly the yardage you need. Currently Spoonflower prints on quilting weight cotton, organic cotton sateen, organic cotton knit (a lovely interlock), upholstery-weight twill, a crisp linen-cotton canvas, a floaty cotton voile, cotton silk, and silk crepe de chine. You can order as little as a fat quarter or enough for a current project plus some to stash for the future. If you'd prefer a design I offer in a different scale or colorway, just let me know.

Not all of my design time is spent at the keyboard. I use dye, paint and other surface design media to transform plain jane fabrics into something memorable. Some of those fabrics are incorporated into my own work. Some are sold to other people, usually at teaching venues but occasionally in my Etsy shop. And from time to time you may find my printed Spoonflower fabrics bundled for sale in my Etsy shop.

I
love to see what people make with the fabrics I design and produce, and hope you'll share a photo and your story on my Facebook page!
